Autopilot compass location

Hello, can't find my autopilot compass in any easy access compartments. Any suggestions on where to look next? I have a Hunter 386. Thanks.

Follow the wire! (I know,not always easy, but it's the sure way to track it down)

Do you know what it looks like? It should be a black plastic bulb the size of a fist and should be mounted along the centerline of the boat. I would locate the control box and with the help of the manual which should be available online, identify the wires going to the fluxgate compass and follow the wires. It needs to be away from magnetic and electronic fixtures so look along the centerline in the underside of the cockpit area as a likely place.

I found mine without a wire trace.
On the Hunter 386 dual cabin design...
My guess is near port side clothes closet, under the lounge seat or just aft of that in port side bed storage.
My Raymarine Flux compass is in a black square-ish shaped box about 3x3x3. I should be labeled.

get somebody to monitor the display while you walk around with a magnet and have them tell you when they see change in the heading

A good place to start - pick the compartment that you would most likely want to store a large metal toolbox in -- naturally that will be the place with the flux gate!
