Anyone have any thought or experiences to share on "automatic" mainsail covers? These are covers that are integrated with lazy jacks so that the main can be dropped into them and then the cover just zipped up. They look good, and we need new canvas, so, what do you think? jv see link

Had one for 2 years

Ours came with the boat. Initially it was only held to the boom at the extremes and it tended to sag to one side. Last winter I added 3 slides to fasten it to the boom groove and it has worked beautifully since. One extra bonus comes if you release the lazy jack lines and let the cover fall below the boom, you can add a few square ft of sail area. Not a bad thing for low wind conditions. I am sure you will love it John JV (too)

Race or Cruise?

I had one on my H320 that came with the boat. There are channels on both sides of the boom that a bead runs into to keep it on the boom. A piece of 1/2" PVC run in pockets on the cover to keep it stiff. It was great for cruising, but didn't cut it for racing. I pulled it off and replaced it over the winter.

Doyle Stackpack

I have a friend that put new Doyle sails on his Catalina 30 with the stackpack integrated cover/lazy jacks. He really likes them. It makes putting the main away really easy. He is zipped up and ready to go in two minutes. Fair winds, Tom
