Automatic Boat Bottom Scrubbing (?)

Here at Lake Lanier, Georgia, a British Company installed a "boat bottom scrubbing system", where you tie up to a dock and a machine with brush type scrubbers scrubs your hull from one end to the next. The devise looks like it might be some type of cradle the boats sets into. The brochure they provide states the cost for a cleaning is $128 (non-member) for a 32 foot sailboat. This company has gone national, but the brochure they provide does not get into any specific detail regarding the cleaning of keels or rudders. I am seeking any opinions on those who may used this system and just how effective it has been for them. Thanks, Bob Catalina 30 Lake Lanier, GA

A diver is much cheaper

and you get an inspection of your hull at the same time. My diver charges $1.00 per foot for normal maintenance. For an exceptionally foul first time he might charge 1.5 or 2 times that, but still cheaper than the 4 bucks a foot you quote. If the machine is too vigorous there might be pollution issues here in San Diego.

There was one at Clear Lake CA

Many years ago. Don't know if it is still there. Seemed to be for smaller motorboats, but we used it on our swing keel C22 (board up, of course). emoved the rudder, too. Worked like a charm, since we kept the boat in the water during the summer months only in the lake, didn't have to paint the bottom, and got it clean in early September for the trailer ride to to the Bay area for winter sailing off the trailer (1982 + 5 years). It was essentially an underwater carwash. Don't know how a newer-fangled one would work on a keel boat, though, and how it would treat bottom paint.

Is it available on South Shore Long Island, NY?

I would like to know if a diver or the machine serviced is available in my area?
