I have a CAT 38 with an Autohelm autopilot, which has been working very well...until lately. I single-hand the boat quite often, and recently while "Otto" was set on a course into the wind, and while I was hoisting the main, Otto decided to steer radically off course. What I find is the lever on the helm that locks the system to the motor drive is backing off (releasing) as the helm rotates to port. Anyone have any ideas or have had a similar experience with this problem...thank you.

Same Problem !!

I have the same problem with My Autohelm on My Cat-38. I was able to correct it somewhat by adjusting the steering cables ... It now seems that play in the rudder bushings is a contributing factor. (A subject for another stream of consiousness) Someone suggested replacing the drive belt and doing a thourough cleaning and tightening of the whole system. If You find the magic fix; POST IT HERE !!! I will !!! Good Luck!!
