Autohelm Compass Position

After trying 2 different locations for the fluxgate compass (above the fuel tank in the stern and below the salon seat at the nav station which is port/center), I still cannot get the deviation down to the acceptable 15 degrees. I've tested the compass per Autohelm's instructions and testing indicates OK. How about some locations from successful installers?

This Works on my Catalina 30

I don't know how your Hunter is set up, but on my Catalina 30, I mounted the Autohelm fluxgate compass high in the forward part of the bilge just below the mast compression post. I haven't had any problems with deviation or wandering.

I had good luck putting it on the center of the vee birth bulkhead on my 94 -30 you can see it but it worked for me

heres what i did

I put our Nexus compas in the storgae compartment next to the hot water tank facing the bow. No proplems there on our 91 hunter 30T
