Hi Folks, I need to get my autohelm serviced. There have been posts the last few months about the manufacturer not wanting to service the autohelm units, is there someone else to send the unit to to get repaired? The problem is while sailing, the unit will shut down, it re awakens, almost immediately, (autohelm) is spelled out on the top of the unit's face, it then goes to standby mode. It will steer sometimes for 15 -20 minutes, sometimes just a few seconds! Thanks in advance!

Use the Raymarine Q&A feature...

John, I'm also trying to dig up some info on old Autohelm products and I'm impressed with the existing file of Q&A that you'll find at the www.raymarine.com site. You can also register a question with them (giving them the serial # will help them ID the specific generation product you have) re: your own problem. You need to register as a user, then go into the user services and select either Ask a Question or Raymarine Answers (or some such terminology). Using their search function (e.g. '4000') will winnow the info down to digestable quantities. It's interesting reading and very informative, tho' I'm still waiting for an 'A' to my own 'Q'. Good luck! Jack

ST4000

Before having it seviced, check all of your electrical connections including the fuse. It sounds like you may have mommentary shorts. I know that the unit goes back to the "ST 4000" on the readout if it loses power. The unit is very sensitive and must have good connections. The manual suggest going directly to the battery. Sean

Bad or loose connection someplace.

Sounds like you don't have a proper amount of voltage or amperage to the unit. Redo or at least look at all the power and ground connections and see what happens. West Marine has a service center that can repair Raymarine Products. Just bring the unit in to any West store and they'll ship it out for you.
