Autohelm 4000 -- need remote

I'm looking at purchasing the Autohelm ST 4000 plus wheel autopilot for my H260. My questionn is, do I need or want the remote? What is it for? I cannot find an explanation of what the remote controls. Is it a shutoff that can be activated if you go overboard?Thanks for your help--

I have the 4000 on my H29.5

I installed the ST4000+ on my 29.5 last June. I did not buy the remote. It simply gives you control away from the display itself (just like the tv remote). I couldn't see the point as I'm never going to be too far from the display anyway. I understand you could add it later if you wanted to, it doesnt have to be bought with the unit.
