Our 82 H27, purchased last fall) included a Autohelm 3000 but no instructions. I had used a similar instrument on a friends boat so locking in a heading and such is obvious and does what it is supposed to. The knob labeled "rudder" is not something that I have messed with. Can someone give me the basics of this control? Andy s/v Baroque

Autohelm 3000 rudder control adjustment

My Autohelm 3000 manual states that the Rudder Control button relates to the wheel reduction ratio of the vessel's helm. There are seven positions on the button dial. Lowest setting(left-most) is appropriate for one turn of the wheel, lock to lock. Highest setting(right-most) is for 3+ turns, lock to lock. Too high a setting will, according to the manual, result in oversteering (excessive rudder movement when Autohelm is controlling helm, higher power consumption). Correct by rotating button counter-clockwise. Too low a setting gives sluggish steering performance. Hope that helps!
