Flux-gate compass?

John, if it is the flux-gate compass that you're referring to I removed a never-used autohelm unit when I installed my new ST-4000+ autopilot. I may still have it laying around....but my point is that the two units appeared to be clones of one another. They had the same screw pattern, size, shape, and even the textured finish was identical.... They had to come from the mold.. You might try out the Ray model....probably cheaper than trading up.

Dale Flux gate reply

Hello Dale: I have a very old Autohelm 1000 it uses a mineral oil filled compass for setting the course, has a knob on top of it for selecting new directions...it is not a flux gate compass. if you have an old autohelm you want to give up for parts I sure would like to have it . Best winds to ya- John Saindon

flux-gate...

Sorry, the flux-gate compass was one of the only remnants of wiring left on my C&C 34 when I purchased the boat-in-a-basket.... The wiring, electronics, etc. had been stripped as the result of a pre-purchase lightning strike. Island Compass (www.islandcompass.com) services most all makes of compass, or so Steve says.... I'm not sure what arrangement you've got but if you have a *real compass* that is mechanically broken, he may be able to help.
