Does anyone have photos of a Raymarine ST 1000 Auto Tiller installed on a Hunter 23.5 ? I would like ideas on where and how to mount the brackets for the tiller end, and the base end. Photos would be a real help, along with which brackets to order. Thanks in advance.

I am in the process of installing the same ST1000 on my 1996 Hunter 19. One thing I figured out after talking to Raymarine tech was that installing the tiller fitting on the aluminum tiller was going to be tough and require expensive extra parts. As I have a personal preference for wooden tillers anyway, my solution was to order a new wooden tiller from Idasailor for $110. After five coats of Cetol, it is beautiful and fitting the ST1000 tiller fitting will be much easier. Good luck on your installation.

A picture of my Autohelm 800 installation

I don't know if this will help. My 1995H23.5 came with an AutoHelm 800 installed as shown in the picture. The automotive hose clamps on the tiller are crude, but it holds and I haven't ever snagged anything on them. I had to have the electrical connector moved down and to the left an inch or two when the stern rail seats were installed a year ago. ...RickM...

Good photo !

Good photo, thanks! I see you mounted the cup on the side of the transom opening. I was hoping for a photo of a seat mounted auto helm installed on a 23.5 I guess we are the only 23.5 owners who can afford one of these units, but I think it will prove invaluable while single-handing. I got the hand held remote control unit with the Raytheon ST- 1000 Auto Tiller. The remote will allow me to go inside the cabin so I can cook and make steering adjustments at the same time. The package cost $399.00 and is still on sale at www.defender.com (Defender Industries) Anyone else out there have photos of an auto tiller on a 23.5 ?

Seat-mounted?

I took the picture but I didn't install the unit. It came with the boat when I bought it used two years ago. I'm not sure what you mean by "seat-mounted", unless you are referring to diagrams in tha manual. I found the 1000 manual on the web, and the distance from the rudder pivot point forward along the axis of the tiller handle is for mounting is 18 inches which is the same as mine. From there you need 90 degrees to the cockpit wall. Wouldn't this always be aft of the seats? Looking at the manual, your 1000 is basically the same shape and size as my 800. Sheesh, I didn't realize that Autohelm and Ratheom are the same company/product! ...RickM...
