Has anyone installed a auto or maxi prop on their Hunter 31. What size did you use and was the improvements in handling & sailing worth the cost?

can't talk to the 31, but we put an autoprop on our 356 and it's been fantastic! better performance and efficiency under power in forward and reverse, no prop walk, and a huge improvement in speed under sail. compared to the Hunter 3 blade fixed delivered on the boat we gained on the order of 3/4 kt with the autoprop under sail. well worth it! they can recommend the correct prop for your 31. BTW, their support and service have been excellent

look at kiwi prop
I installed a three blade Kiwi prop on my Hunter 31 last year. Like the other props that are three blades, this one has made a great difference in reversing, feathers beautifully under sail, and add good torque in forward motoring. All the props have pros and cons for each boat's needs and all are worth a close look.

Max Prop
The PO bought me a 16" max prop for my 31, so I have nothing in which to compare. I'm glad he bought it cause I surely couldn't have afforded it. However, he had WAY too much pitch and the little Yanmar 13hp wasn't turning enough revs. I hauled her 3 times before finally getting the pitch right. Backing into my slip is as easy as falling off a log. No prop walk whatsoever.
