Are there any 380 owners out there with auto pilot preferences. I want to install one on my new 380 and don't want to undersize. Thanks, Scott

Undersize Autopilot

I would agree with your concern about undersizing the autopilot. I have a 376 and put an Autohelm 4000 on when I bought the boat. We put about 1,000 miles on the boat last year. I am now looking for an Autohelm 5000 to replace it. The 4000 seems to work a lot, is noisy, and has had to be repaired once already.

Scott, I too am going through the same debate. The Autohelm 5000+ seems to be an easy install and in calm to average conditions. I know of at least two other 380's with the 6000+, which is what I think I will end up with. The difference in cost through Defender is about $700 ($1900 vs $2600). But I too will be interested in any other opinions not only as to specific models but manufacturers as well. With our setup with the Edson CDi, I think a rotary drive is our only real option. Robertson

I have a Robertson pilot on my H45 with an underdeck linear hydraulic drive. Absolutely bulletproof. MC
