Location worked best for me. Out of way of outboard. Also, easy to run fused 12v DC power receptical directly from the battery to the rear side of port seat.

Looks great! When do you use it.

I've been wanting one but I don't know when I'd use it here in NC. On the lake the winds chance so often that we usaully hand steer. If I want to go below for a minute I just heave to. If I'm at the coast where I'd get tired of handsteering a long time I use sheet to tiller steering because the winds are steady. So I guess I'd only use it when I was motoring. I have two friends who have them but I've never seen them use them. I'd be interested to know how often you use it and when you think it is the most helpful.

Port side

Installed mine on the port side as well. Like you said, keeps it out of the way of the motor and it's easy enough to lift it off when you want to use the ladder. Use it on almost every sail. Ron Mehringer Hydro-Therapy

Parts List

Got it from Sail Net SIMTB120 Tiller Bracket 4.72" SIMPB90 Pedestal Bracket 3.54" SIMTP10 Tiller Autopilot Used a Power plug Receptical that I got at Wal-Mart and a plug that I put on the Autopilot from Radio Shack. Changed the angle (bent) on the Tiller bracket so that it lined up better. Put it on the tiller with a couple of stainless straps until I was sure it worked the way I wanted it to before I drilled it. I'll try to take a couple more pictures and post on project section. Hope that helps you.

Starboard Side

I used a Raymarine ST2000+, and mounted it to the STARBOARD side. Also, I did not use the pedastal mount - I can see me breaking a toe on that one! I used the bulkhead mount, which looks almost the same, but mounts against a vertical surface. I bolted it to the vertical side of the bench seat - the part angled back near the motor. In addition, I used the angle bracket, similar to the picture, but I made a spacer that was flat on one side and cut a channel the same diameter of the tiller on the other. Made it out of a piece of Trex. Then, when I bolted it, I drilled 5/8" holes in one side of the tiller, and smaller holes (~1/4") for the bolts in the other. This way, I could get a socket through the big hole and really crank down on the nut. If you run the bolt all the way through the tiller, you can't tighten too much or you'll start to crush the tiller. For the record, I do not find that the starboard side mounting interferes with the motor at all. I can also leave it set-up and connected when we're at anchor and not have to move it to use the ladder. As an added plus, the autopilot will hold the rudder centerline while we're anchored without having to lash it in place. This was the best option by far that I've added to the boat. I keep kicking myself for not adding it sooner!

Otto is my best sailing buddy

My Autohelm is installed on the port side. Their is a pretty good article in the photo forum covering the installation. I use mine just about all the time. It hold course so I can raise and lower sails. Once on course, it holds the course while I trim the sails, plot my track or make a sandwhich. On our Door County Cruise, I relaxed on the cockpit seat and read a magazine while Otto held the course. A side benefit is the fact that the tiller pilot is better at holding a course than me. (ADD perhaps?)This allows us to make passages quicker.

Where do you stow Otto (auto) Pilot when

sailing but it is not in use. I keep mine below to avoid having it banging around in the cockpit. It is secure below but a real pain when I want to use it. It involves using a tiller lock and a lot of rushing and banging about below to get the TP. Suggestions welcome !!!!! Hayden

In Mourning

My friend Otto passed away this summer. He is missed tremendously. I have a 12 hour cruise comming up in the next 2 weeks where the full impact of his passing will really hit home!

Let it lay

I detach mine from the tiller and slide it toward the stern. Doesn't seem to want to move. If it is going to "bang around", you probably shouldn't be out in that weather in a 26.
