I have a S2 9.2C from 1979. I want to add an auto pilot, specifically the raymarine S-1 wheel pilot. Is this powerful enough for my boat. Does anoyone have one of these installed on there boat? How much power would it use in mild conditions? Replies appreciated. Thanks Chris

Wheel Pilot Experience

Can't speak of the Raymarine, but I installed the Simrad Wheel Pilot two years ago on my 9.2A and it works very well. Plenty of power, accurate, and really simple to install (although wiring through the binnacle support was a bear, but that's not a fault of the unit). Also, consider a remote as I can comfortably hide up under the dodger when the weather is not happy -- Rick

Autohelm on 9.2C

I've had an Autohelm wheel controlled unit on my S-2 9.2C for many years and it has done very well. It's kind of sloppy down wind, but it will handle rough seas without stalling and I haven't had to change the drive belt in many hundreds of miles of cruising. No complaints at all.
