My old Cetrek 727(installed 1988) has an 0183 interface.

Beware of Seatalk

Mark, What instrument do you want to connect to the auto-pilot? I presume you want to connect to your GPS. I'm not sure about the C-80, but most Raymarine instrunents talk Seatalk which is proprietary. The main question is what NMEA "sentences" the Cetrek listens to, and then whether the chartplotter supplies them. BTW - where are you in Warwick, we are at Brewers (the original).

If everything else is Raymarine......

....and is communicating to each other via Seatalk, you may need to install a Seatalk to NMEA interface. But this is not absolute - depends on your Raymarine components. Look for NMEA inputs on any of the Raymarine components and connect your AP 0183 in/out there. If they, in turn, are connected to each other via Seatalk, you may be OK. NMEA is NMEA. Unless you have pretty new components, they're all NMEA 0183. New stuff - if the manufacturer has made the decision - may be NMEA 2000 compatible. But NMEA 2000 is supposed to be backward compatible to NMEA 0183, I think. Dave, S/V Pas de Deux, Catana 471-44

NMEA

Check the manual on the C80 CP, it more than likely will have a NMEA in termination. It may also have an NMEA out (some Raymarine instruments do). Check the manual for the AP to see if it has both NMEA in, and out. If both the Raymarine, and the Cetrek have each wire the 'out' of one to the 'in' of the other. If you can't find a NMEA out on the Raymarine you will need to buy a Sea Talk to NMEA converter from Raymarine, or from some other manufacturer.
