We have a Lewmar Integra pedestal mamaba auto drive # 8930013 on our 2008 Hunter 45CC. The electo magentic clutch has burned out and needs replacing. We looked online and can only find the complete drive. Any ideas where we can find just the clutch. We are currently in Marathon, FL. The clutch has stamped on the side " Stephenson Gobin 3 51 0849 Z001 12V = 20W Q12

Thanks

Are you sure the clutch is bad? How did you test it?
Basically with a DVM it should read about 100 ohms. Could read as high as 1k.
If it's open circuit, then it's bad.
You can contact Stevenson Gobin. They might be able to supply s new clutch.
Will likely be about $300
Then you have to repair the drive.
If you're handy, shouldn't be impossible.
I think I saw a whitlock motor unit on ebay recently.
You should check that out.

It's still on ebay.
It's used & he wants a grand for it.
If it's the same unit, offer him $350.
These aren't easy to sell

took unit apart, the elecro magnetic clutch wires were burnt and the magnet no longer magnetizes. Did search ebay yesterday and found a unit that looked identical to ours but it was sold May 2014. Have been searching since.

Ok then

You have 3 options

Buy a new pilot drive. My guess is about $1500.
Buy the clutch. You obviously know how to take the unit apart, so no biggie.
Why not see if Lewmar sells it as well?
Try & get the clutch repaired. Maybe a motor rewind service can do this?

Good luck!

Went back to their site

Ok, their link was wrong
The clutch they referenced was a series 58, and you need a series 51
Series 51 is flange mount, which is what you have.
I believe this is custom, which most of these clutches are.
Contact the mfg in the UK.
They may (if you're super lucky) have one.
Funny, went through the same thing years ago with a Cetrek pilot.
It will definitely be cheaper buying a clutch than a whole drive.

But, I gotta ask..
How did the clutch burn out?
Misfiring?
Lightning?
These hardly ever go, unless exposed to water.
Does the motor run OK?
Check this before you order the clutch.

Re: Went back to their site

The motor works fine, appears the clutch wires were not sealed properly. between vibration and corrosion they burned out. Have a local wonder boy ( he can fix just about anything) attempting to fix, he suggested we find a new clutch. Fingers crossed he can get it working but still attempting to find the clutch .I have emailed Stephenson Gobin and Lewmar, haven't received a response.

I'm sure you can get a new clutch from the mfg.
It is possible that Lewmar doesn't actually make the drive themselves.
This is common in the marine industry for pilot drives.

Still cheaper to repair this than buy a new drive. If I recall, my drive cost me about 2 grand.

Best of luck
