Hi, new owner of a 280 with dsl. and wheel, so far I'm impressed with her. I stepped down from a Hunter 33, also a nice boat. I purchased a WP 10 auto pilot but could not install it due to the gear shift coming out of the pedestal at the 6 o'clock location. I tried shimming and that didn't work because you run out of travel on the clamps and the wheel hub is too short. What type of auto pilots are being used on the 280s and 272s with the wheel setup. Simrad and Raymarine both have dropped their smaller wheel pilots. Thanks, Nelson

I installed

a WP10 on my 272le. The shift lever also comes out at 6 o'clock. I'm not familiar with the 280 steering pedestal, but the WP10 did'nt require anything special to make it fit. I might have a picture on my pc at work, I'll send it to you tomorrow.

Didn't have a good picture

but what I understand is that if you have an Edson pedestal it should be the same as the one on the 272LE.
