Have just purchased 2003 306. Want to install the ST 4000+ at the pedestal, is it pre-wired for it , there is three wire ,yellow ,red and red with blue.I caan't trace them to the main panel. I hope it is pre wired since I can't figure out how to get wire from the panel to the pedestal. Also I plan on locating the flux compass in the bilge vertically , but again it looks really hard to get the wire to the pedestal. Any one having knowledge re: the installation would like to hear from you.

wired

Did the install this past winter. Yes, the boat is pre-wired. I am doing this from memory as the books are on the boat. Yellow is ground, red is for the autopilot, red/blue is for a refriderator. The check is simple. Use your volt meter. Place grond probe into the yellow wire end. Place red probe into the red wire end. Turn on the meter and adjust voltage to proper setting. Go below and turn on the autoplot breaker. Your meter should read 12V. If not, move red probe to the red/blue wire. I mounted the flux compass in Hunters recommended position, in the starboard aft cockpit locker. Works great, with no problems. Measure carefully when drilling for the motor. There is not much space in the pedestal. Measure 5 1/2" from the 1" shaft since the motor is located 6" from the center of the shaft. Score a line using a pencil or water marker. Pick a spot were the motor will not hit the steering pedestal or any thing else inside the pedestal. Good luck with the install.

A/P breaker

Don,thanks for your input. I don't seem to a circuit breaker for the a/p, thats why I can't trace the wires. What size of breaker do i need,5amp? The manual calls for the flux compass to be mounted more towards the center of the boat, how does your perform in the seat locker, sure would be an easier install.

breaker

Forgot to look at the breaker today. Brought the book home, but it says the breaker for Auto-Pilot varies per model. I did confirm that the yellow wire is ground and red wire is for the A/P. Red/blue wire is for sender guages (whatever that is). Going down to the boat tomorrow after work, will check the breaker then.

ST-4000 slipping out of gear

We have 4 ST4000's in our fleet of Sailtime boats - all 4 autopilots slip out of gear without warning. Are any of you experiencing this problem? How have you fixed it?
