I am an Australian who has lived in US for many years and am about to retire to Australia in two years time. Bearing the mind the ravages of time that have befell myself and "she who must be obeyed" I am no longer into big boat concept, but prefer instead to go for a easy to handle trailersailer.Unfortunately the Australian Customs Service restricts me to a sail boat that is "not of a deep keel type ,designed for sheltered waters, and weighs less than 1000 kilos or 2200 pounds. I have to take into account the cost of shipping and am only interested in a second hand boat.Any advise as to make year and price would be most appreciated. Thank You REX BUTLER

I had a Catalina 22 for 13 years. Trailered it all over the country and cruised on it through many lakes and in the Florida Keys. (It gets a bit tiny after the first week...) They sail great and the pop-top gives some extra room and ventilation. If I remember right it comes in right about 2200lbs and has a swing or wing keel (in addition to the fin keel model) Jim "Prospect"

I have owned a Catalina 22 for many years now. It is an easy to handle boat with one hand capability a big plus. Many things that it has that could be of interest to you: stability, easy and flexible manuverability, good storage for it's size, practical interior layout and good overall use of space, a pop top for additional headroom (that also has a canvas weather cover, optional), ease of trailering, retractable keel (also comes in a wing version) and it meets the approximately 2200 lb. weight specification. Mine has a furler with a 155 headsail and that makes for even more cruising fun! Good luck with your upcoming move.
