Marina Del Rey / San Diego RaceJuly 4th, 5th and 6th, 2002; Thursday-SaturdayThis is a great opportunity to tune your Hunter and 'Survive The Night' with family and friends on an overnight race with an extensive cruising class for spinnaker and non-spinnaker classes. Hunters have done well the last few races. If you come north for the race, stop at the many harbors on the way up and take the whole week. If you come from the north, race down and enjoy an informal return cruise with rafts in Mission Bay and Dana Point and visit Catalina for a few days on the way back. Great bragging rights and not a huge effort. A great way to shake out your gear and systems. And, good preparation for other overnight races such as Newport/Ensenada without the large numbers. Usually 40-70 boats in recent years, but several hundred in it's long history. Sponsored by Santa Monica Windjammers' Yacht Club in Marina Del Rey and Southwestern Yacht Club in San Diego. Information at 310/827-7692 SMWYC or 619/ 222-0438 SWYC. Watching the Independence Day celebrations from offshore will have a special meaning for us all.Enjoyed seeing many of you at the rendezvous. Rick D.
