Interesting...I wonder what they didn't like about it. Maybe it was the noise the engine made?

I didn't make it. Turned around after 20 hours due to getting terribly sea sick when it got dark and the waves got to 8' I just got a new contract so back to work I go :( I'll go see the doctor in a few months and get the patch and give it ago again after this contract.

Franklin, good luck with the patch...

we are going outside this summer but only for 210 miles. I plan on the patch and one of my sailing buds just in case I get sea sick.

Hooray for Franklin

Most folk don't like turning back. They may see it as a sign of their weakness or inability to cope. Result - it keeps the CG busy. I know of many who battled onwards and, in one case, the boat was lost AND a CG helicopter and its crew were downed at night in high seas - all were lost except the yacht crew. Good seamanship says to turn back when the prospective journey in front looks as if it could easily all end in tears, unless that is, if the return trip would be worse still. Franklin is to be congratulated. PS Stugeron works for me and I haven't had a case of seasickness on board in 30 years. Neither myself nor crew. But you have got to believe in the medicine! Before that I was a frequent caller on the big white telephone - some would even say 'an expert'.

I admit

I felt like a total loser. I learned that I need to have my tonsils removed too. Seasickness is a lot worse when you still have them in. The seasickness was gone once the sun came up but the tonsils gave me trouble for a couple of days afterwords.

What Donalex said

Franklin, I don't know how many ways we can say it, YOU DID THE RIGHT THING! I am a retired Airline Transport pilot and almost all of the fatalities I have know about in my entire career were from people "pressing on" when the right thing to do was to turn back. Don't beat yourself up over it, find a sea sickness medicine that works for you and keep on sailing to the best of your abilities. I have turned back on several long sailing trips when my friends pressed on, they all made it, but I have never felt bad about a decision to turn around. That is your responsibility as the captain, to make those go/no go decisions. Learn from it and move on. fair winds Dave

It is a good caption that understand his limitation and takes corrective action when required! You have my respect for this one.

Donalex is correct ... but

Sturgeon is generally unavailable in the U.S. I found it widely used in Mexico and can say that it is very effective.
