I am purchasing a 1988 26.5 Hunter. I can't figure how the main sheet connects to the boom. I am use to it attaching to the end of the boom. but with the track forward and only loops that are riveted to the underside of the boom. I have no clue how it goes. There are also lines running through the boom. I figure one of these pulls the sail to the end. The rest I need to know how they work. The owner had a stroke and can't help me and his wife was only a crew person. Can one of you help me Hopefully you have a picture shoing the hook up.

Try the boat info section

A picutre there shows a gun tackle (four to one advantage) with two on the front loop and two on the rear. Both look like they go to a single point on the travler. My guess is the sheet starts on the travler up and around the front loop (through a block of course) back to a block on the travler up and around the rear loop back to a second block on the travler and then becomes the working end. So you should have two single blocks and the travler should have two blocks and a becket. There may be a manual to explain the boom inner workings. One line is certianly the mainsail outhaul while the others would be reefing lines.

manual followup

When you visit the ayesail site, you can get a good view of the boom setup by browsing the manual for the Hunter 24.

Rich has it right

In-boom control lines: outhaul in the center, topping lift to its right, reef line to its left. Each line runs through a brake at the gooseneck. The outhaul is cleated to the mast, the other lines run back to the cockpit. The PO of my boat put the mainsheet on a triple-pulley block and attached it to the aft mounting shackle. It works fine that way. I love the traveller's running the full width of the cockpit. The 26.5 is a fast boat for her size. You'll love sailing her.

Brake @ Gooseneck

A couple of years ago, I released the tension on the lines running through the brakes at the gooseneck. The pin fell out and the brakes went overboard. If this happened on your boat, it wouldn't make much sense as how these lines routed. Check out the manual
