Hello,

I have been trying to understand the assym spinnaker tack attachment for a Hunter 33, 2004. There is a little "C" hook on the bow. Does a roller screw onto this hook or something? Has anyone done an attachment of their assym spinnaker to their Hunter 33? If so, how did you arrange the tack line?

Thank you.

We attach a block to one of the holes on the bow roller just in front of where the head sail furler is attached and run the tack line back to a bow cleat. The sheet blocks then attach to the arch. There are a couple of U shaped attachments there.

Ideally you want to get the tack out a bit from the bow. I have fitted the Selden bowsprit which gets the tack well clear of the anchor and roller (around 700mm) and gives more clear air from the main. I find it works best on a light air reach (you can go to 50deg apparent) where you can gain all the advantages which you lose with the standard small H33 headsail. Another useful advantage if you are racing and going dead downwind is that you can also put the headsail out on the other side and with three sails up including the large 33 main and 15 knots of wind up your rear end, the 33 will outperform most equivalent production boats. If you want to go the whole hog then I also recommend a spinnaker furler.

I attach the tack block as Dfast has said with a snap hook into the elongated hole. I run the tack line to the cabin top port side winch. This allows the tack to be adjusted without going forward.
