I pulled the original 5411 diesel out of my 1981 C-30 for a complete overhaul.

I sourced all the parts from Genesee Mechanical Service (Bill) in Waukesha, WI. The 5411 diesel was used in Kabota tractors for several years. All parts to overhaul one of these motors are available through Kabota dealers. The Universal 5411 motor service manual is still available on line for free. You can access exploded engine diagrams with part numbers on the Kabota web site under "small tractors" "Z-500" motor. The following is a list of parts and Kabota P/N's that I needed for my overhaul. Note that I could get brand new Kabota OEM injectors and injector pump with factory warranty for less than local diesel service shop charges for rebuilding my old ones. I could not locate any new 0.020 over sized pistons as manual indicates can be used. I had to go the cylinder sleeve replacement option and as my old pistins are within spec. I plan to re use them.

Blue,

Universal is now owned by Westerbeke. For replacement parts, call RB Groves in Pensacola FL. (850) 475-2535. I would call them to find a local supplier or, maybe you can get it directly from them. I do know that when Westerbeke took over, the prices jumped.

I don't know if I would go with the larger pistons pal, your engine block is pretty old, I wouldn't change any parameters.

I also used Kubota parts to repair my cylinder head on my 5411. But with the work you intend to do and the parts that you have to purchase, wouldn't it just make sense to do a repower? Like capt ron said, it is an old engine.

When My engine seized I removed it and sent it to Country Sales and service in Orrville, Ohio. They are a Kubota service facility. Cost to rebuild was about 2500.00. I stripped all marine components off. I purchased the marine items (gaskets) I needed from Torresen Online in Holland MI.

New engine starts quick and runs great.

The only Universal parts you should ever need to get from a marine dealer are the exhaust manifold and maybe it's gaskets. The raw water pump is also marine only, but don't get it from Westerbeake, Moyer Marine and others have the Oberdorfer pump for way cheaper. Everything else comes from Kubota at 1/10 to 1/4 the price. The 5411 is a Kubota Z500 engine from a B5100 tractor. Kubota dealer will need the tractor number to look up parts. Most do not know what a Universal is.

Yes, Kabota tractor engine out of B5100 tractor. There are very few marine specific parts for the motor. There is no reason to pay marine prices for all the parts that are not marine specific. There are hundreds of Kabota dealers that will sell you parts for a Z-500 motor used in a B5100 tractor. Local sources are always a good idea. My experience is that the aforementioned parts require a little extra digging and effort on the part of the Kubota dealer to locate. I found a few dealers who were not interested in making this effort. The intent of my post is simply to aid others in need of overhaul parts by providing the specific Kabota P/N's. It's great see the responses noting additional sources and dealers who are will to put the effort in to sourcing over haul parts for a Z-500.

The definition of "overhaul" or "rebuild" of a motor is a very general description. The scope and expense varies greatly depending on the condition of the motor and how thorough the owner wants to be. It is difficult to have a discussion around the cost to overhaul a motor without a detail understanding of all machine work being done and parts being replaced or reconditioned.

A repower is always an option. When you develop a complete list of everything that goes into a repower beyond buying the engine, there is a lot of additional work, parts and expense. It would be nice to have a new, higher H.P. motor but, the way I use my boat, not nice enough for me that I want to have the additional expense and engineering project to fit it, align it, wire it, plumb it, exhaust it, and connect linkages to it. If I spent a lot of time under motor, or motor sailing, a repower to upgrade the 5411 11 H.P. to something larger would make a lot of sense.

When you're looking for parts, it might be easier for your to find using the correct spelling: KUBOTA.

I'm not a "spell check Nazi," but I find that poor spelling makes for rotten search results.
