Atomic 4 overhaul

Did anyone have their Atomic 4 overhauled and if you did, how much did it cost?My marina said that 2 of my cylinders don't have compression (only about 50 per). So I'm trying to find out if it's better just to repower (if the cost of verhauling is unreasonable). They could not give me a direct quote, only hourly charges because they said that they don't know what other kind of problem they will find. So if anybody can give me any idea of what I'm up against, it will be highly appreciated.

I know someone who spent 4K for an overhaul, but their marina ripped them off big time! This motor is so simple that anyone with some basic mechanic skills can do it themselves. I just did mine. If you have low compression like I did in two cylinders (1&2 or 3&4) it can be as simple as a blown head gasket. Could be broken valve springs as well (less likely). Could be a cracked head (really unlikely unless you are getting water into the cylinders, could also get water with a blown head gasket), etc. Could also be piston rings. Simply put I would do the work yourself or buy the parts and hire a mechanic friend to do the work instead of a marine mechanic.One other option is: http://www.moyermarine.com/ He sells the parts and does rebuilds.Richard
