I'm trying to assemble a contact list of Vegas in Atlantic Canada.
There are 9 Vegas I know of - I am sure there are more. (Any in
Newfoundland?) The contact list would be circulated among the
participants and then , maybe, we could organize a rendezvous or
exchange information. Please e-mail boat and contact details to:
lighthouse@...

Good stuff, Jim! I suspect the five Vega owners I
am aware of are included in your toll of nine (given to you earlier): Clint
Edmonds, Gord van Dyke, Dave Wilson, Paul Barr and you -- I remain a 'hopeful'
for 2001! There is another owner in Pictou, but I don't know his name. Do you
have e-mail addresses for those listed above? I have them all except for Paul
Barr.

Hi David: Thank you for the copy of the evaluation of the Vega. There is no, repeat No Way, there is any "oil canning" in a Vega hull as the evaluator in these materials noted in his test run. Having sailed a Vega for two seasons and having owned a 25' Rhodes Meridian (5000 lbs of dead weight), I can attest the Vega is built like a "brick out-house" compared to most of its peers. For example, If you tap against many hulls in a boatyard on a cradle, while you will hear a dull solid thunk on a Vega hull, a hollow "tinny" sound can be perceived on more boats than you can believe. Some boats demonstrate a concavity just from cradle pressure while the Vega remains rigid. I have had two people approach us in our boatyard, one from Germany the other here in the US and inquire whether our Vega was for sale. I do have a warm spot for your Canadian Mirage 27' sloop but will take your word for the lack of offshore credentials. I was impressed by the comfort and layout of the Mirage I visited on the Jersey Shore a few years back and they seem to have a loyal following in Europe as well. After looking for some time these were the only two boats I considered. I have been away and was sort of snowed in last week visiting my folks in the foothills just south of the Adirondacks. Sorry I amlate in this reply. Hope you find the Boat of your dreams............... Cheers jim
