I own a hunter 19 (93-96) which I would like to outfit with an asymmetrical spinnaker. Presently there are no deck winches on board and the boat’s measurements are: I=21', J=6' 9’’, P=22' 2’’, E=8' 6 in. My questions are as follows: Do I need winches, or can I get away with ratcheting blocks if I am only going to fly the asymmetrical in light winds? (I will have my four year-old son and spouse who is new to sailing on board and plan to avoid anything even resembling a knockdown.) Economy is obviously the reason for avoiding the installation of winches, but not at the expense of safety which is always my primary concern. Although the sail is relatively small, I am well aware of the strain that can quickly develop and in an emergency I would have no qualms about cutting away the sheet. If you do recommend winches, what size, type (self-tailing?) and locations would you suggest?I am also interested in feedback from other owners with regard to winch location and/or other related information that differs from Hunter's Owners Manual.Thank you,Leif Arneson
