Yes I'm going symmetric, and an old one. The lower panels are not clew radial. I've seen older kites like that, but never asyms.

if its SYM, both sides are created equal.. that kite dosent look equal

I was thinking its just the way its laying there. The tapes are not exposed.... on port the tape is clearly rolled up, the lower purple panel is 1/3 covered by the time you get to the top of it.

And like I said I've never ever seen an asym that was not clew radial. The loads along the foot are much higher on an asym.

But who knows. Too bad clew and tack have the same number of letters in them! ;^)

The dimensions he supplied are 42'6" 37' 23'2" which would be Asymmetrical but it is not radial in design. He also says its only been up 4 times. I'm a bit skeptical.

Well if that's right its an asym for sure, construction methods be damned. Should fit OK, foot a touch long but luff is spot on.

You could be right about age. I've been to the Hood site and I don't see any chutes with this design.

It does look to be in good condition in the pictures.

Price is down to $750 with sock.

It's old for sure. Over time spinnakers of all types have less and less purely horizontal or vertical panels.... they are now all aligned to the loads from the clews, tack, and head. Google 'Asymmetrical spinnaker' images and you'll have a hard time finding one that looks like that. But for cruising that probably OK, and if its only been used a few times its probably in good shape.

Only down side is that asym cut and design (shape) has come a long way in the last 5 years. They fly better generally, and most APs will reach and go deep well. Personally I'd offer 500. The sock is worth 250 if its good (but those have gotten better over time too) so that helps balance it out. But finding a used asym for a boat is hard. That one is almost spot on.

Thanks for the input Jackdaw.

I'll have to think this one through.

I did find another asym in California for a 2006 Beneteau 36 for $900. never used apparently. The only problem is there is not much in the way of color.

It would be a bit large for me.

Yes, asymmetric

Joker:
Yes, it is an asymmetric spinnaker and this was a very common way to build them back in the 80's. Cost effective with the vertical foot panels, and as they don't really reach 'hard', this cut was adequate. I would guess it to be pretty old, but if not used much still serviceable.
A 352 asym should be in the 41-43' range on the luff, 37-40' on the leech and 19-22' on the foot for best use.

Are the pictures shown an Asym or Sym Chute.

It looks like a Sym chute by the way it's cut?

I'm interested in buying but only if it's Asym.

What do you guys think?

Thanks Bob.

The 80's,.

I just got a quote for a new cruising spinnaker from Hood; $2675, 891 sq.ft. of 1.5 oz. Nylon in a tri-star panel design with choice of colors.

I'll try NP and some others to see what they come back with.

And they want $468 for a ATN sock.

The one in California was close to the right size but I'd like some more color.

I'll keep searching
