I have both an asymetrical and a symetrical with a pole for my Cat34. Recently, another cruiser/racer mentioned that his Cat36 performed better (faster VMG)with the poled out asymetrical than with the symetrical. Is this normal? I've never tried my asymetrical with a pole. Should I?

Usually a spin will be a better sail esp. once you start squaring the pole back espwcially if the asym sail is the same in area. The longer luff is a better sail for reaching with same area but will need more area to stay equal as you square back. The asym will work better on a pole as you square but probably will not be a faster than a spinnaker Mark
