I just purchased a 1993 Hunter 35.5 Legend and I want to add a assymmetrcal spinnaker to my sail inventory. With my previous boat, a 30' Catalina tall rig. we used symmetrical spinnakers with poles. However, we usually sail short handed; so, sailing an asymmetrical without a pole will be easier and improve marital relations. My preference is to use the asymmetrical spinnaker with apparent wind angles of 90+ - 170 degrees. We will probably only use the asymmetric sail in true wind speeds of 8 - 14 knots. What sail do you recommend? I will be attending the Miami Boat show this month and will make a purchase.

Asymmetrical Spinnaker

Hi Allen, Welcome to the Doyle Sailmakers forum. Please see my response in the forum to Baja Bob. Please also check our APC cruising spinnaker in the Chandlery on this web site, it explains the APC sail and is available on line with color choices. It is also built by Doyle Sailmakers right here in the USA. Thanks for your interest!

North for me

They have so many lofts around the country that they were able to send someone out to measure my Hunter 29.5. Great job. If you decide to add a bowsprit, I've got a great set of pix and instructions for a $50 rig that works great.

Doyle has lofts all over the country too, and their service has been fantastic for me. They had the measurements for my 29.5 APC chute, and then the new one for my 356. They sent a crew to measure my 356 since it was so new-they made several visits to plan a new jib and swingbatten main for me this winter, and will come sailing to help me set her up this spring. I would use a Doyle 3/4 oz chute

I had a H35.5 and we used a symetrical chute but if I had that boat today (it was one of the best that I have owned) I'd used a asymetrical chute with a sock. You thoughts on the use are quite proper. I have a asymetrical Doyle chute on my H380 and it is a good sail to have. The 35.5 only needs three sails--mail, jib and asymetrical. If you put on a 150 it will go slower.

Doyle Asymetric

with a sock has been a great addition for us. And the sailmaker at the local loft is tops. David Lady Lillie
