I need to get a Hunter 33 Cherubini to Asia. I am not going to be able to sail her there myself nor can I afford to pay a pilot. Can anyone offer any insight on how to get her there? She is a 1974 model which I paid $20K for, she is extremely well equipped and in immaculate condition but I am having a tough time swallowing the additional $22K transportation qoutes I am getting. If I could get her anywhere w/in 800 nm of Taiwan, I could sail her myself. I hate to part w/ my Hunter - any suggestions or contacts anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated. Please reply to johnkimmey@mindspring.com Regards, john

to Papeete?

There is a company that has special ships that transport yachts. They "sink" the mother ship, the yachts come aboard, cradles are made, and then the mother ship raises up, like a drydock, and off they go. I know they go to Ft. Lauderdale and Papeete, among other places. That is a good part of the way...maybe sail her from there. Or, you could sail her all the way, in stages, storing her along the way. Or, I am told that if you personally ask freighter captains that are going your way, sometimes they will strike a good deal. Let us know.

why not sell here and buy there?

Even if a good deal is $10K for transport...it seems steep for a yacht worth 2 or 3 times that. Wouldn't it be better to sell here, and buy a yacht once you arrive in Taiwan? I know you probably won't won't find a Hunter there, but the sales price of the boat on this end, plus the transport fee ($10K to $20K) aught to buy a pretty nice boat on the far end of this journey. Think of it as a chance for a $20,000.00 upgrade.
