Asking for a friend ;) How long is the actual sailing time during the course? Wondering because I have a weak bladder and have to “go” every 2-3 hours (depending on time of day) and what time of day is it typically (morning or afternoon)? Are there usually usable heads onboard? And if so is it appropriate to use it?

All of the ASA courses I have been on the web sites for, show boats that typically include a head. When I have a call of nature, it is appropriate to use whatever facilities are available, including peeing over the side.

I agree with Joe, this is a phone call or email to the company offering the course.

To answer your question in my case, the first 4 hours in the morning was class time and after lunch break it was on the water. I can not remember if the Merit 25 had a head, but as mentioned above overboard facilities was not out of the question as used by others.
The instructor wanted all day on the water, but ASA requires 1/2 day in class.
Later I switched to US SAIL which was all day on the water sailing with facilities. I learned much more and I favour's US SAIL instead.

I teach ASA 101 and my boat has a head. Some schools teach on boats without heads, so give them a call to learn more, it's a totally legit question. Sailing time is usually 4-5 hours continuous for my students.
