Arrangement for connecting forestay to foredeck fitting

Hi all.I don't have a photo but I have a Plastimo headsail furler. The forestay passes through the drum and terminates in an eye which is clevis pinned to a pair of parallel chainplates that are secured (factory fitting) to the underside of the drum (the non-rotating part of course). All fairly standard. The forestay tension is in turn transferred via the two parallel chainplates to the vertical flange that extrudes from the foredeck fitting with another Clevis pin.Should I have a bottle screw (rigging bolt) "inside" the two parallel chainplates that is also pinned to the eye at the foot of the forestay and that is pinned using a toggle if necessary to the foredeck flange? The current setup has been in place since 2005 but I am slightly uneasy that the it is "belt rather than "belt & braces".Advice very welcome. Thanks,John V1447 Breakaway

If you don't have a bottle screw how do you tension the forestay? Most set ups I have seen have a bottle screw between furler gear and bow fitting.Mike On Tuesday, 12 May 2015, 10:39, "John.Kinsella@... [AlbinVega]" AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com wrote:

When stepping mast I slack off back stay lots then pin chain plates to the vertical flange and tighten up back stay again.
I inherited this setup when I bought the boat.
I'm just wondering if it is safe to rely on chain plates.
I could fit a thin bottle screw between the chain plates I suppose.
How to pin the bottom hole of the chain plates with the same pin that pins the lower fork in the bottle screw??Sent from Type Mail
