Are Water Lift Mufflers More-Or-Less The Same?

Other than obvious variations in shape and size, are water-lift mufflers more-or-less interchangeable?

My 22 HP Yanmar diesel currently has a black flexible neoprene WLM that that is shaped like one those old fashioned water bottles that people used to put hot water in and then place (say) on a stomach-ache. Over the years, my WLM is looking a bit suspect.

I have encountered a new but long out production Westerbecke flexible neoprene WLM which looks to have about the same interanal volume as my existing muffler. The shape is cylindrical, but it will nonetheless fit quite nicely into my existing exhaust configuration. The original use for this Westerbecke WLM was for one of Westerbecke's marine generator sets.

I guess my main question/concern is whether different WLM's of approximate same size have variations in water flow rates and back pressure that might make a difference in performance?

Thanks for opinions!
