This spring acouple of loose spots on my bottom paint caused me to peal off more and more. Most of the guys at the club dont think its blisters , but no one knows what they are. Thought it might be blue gelcoat that is chiped. Please help me if you can. Tim Sharitz

Sure looks like blisters ! tiny, non structural ones, but blisters. Hard to tell what ya got in coating system..?? Looks like the blisters in the underlying glass/gel coat are peeking through a layer of blue bottom paint which has a layer of a blister resistant epoxy coating over it..?? Ya may want to consider removing the coating system to see what ya really have.. These are small (small pox?) and don't warrant immediate action, but you'd want to find out what they are for sure and make plans for next haul out.

blisters?

no ,that would be called pox. in the large shot it looks like the barrier coat was comprmised from the laminate out to the gel coat.
you should try to borrow a moisture meter and check above and below the water line and compare readings.

Mike, I just read what Don Casey wrote about boat pox and I sure hope that you miss diagnosed. All of the white holes have a flat bottoms to them so they dont appear to be blisters. Blisters would be bad enough but it sounds like pox has to be treated by a real doctor. Ihave ordered some striped to get more of the topping coats off, Maybe I can see more then. Thanks Tim
