ARe the new B&R rigged hunters racer?

Has anyone raced any of the new Hunters, e.g. the 310, and does it point upwind and genera;lly perform against tradional rigged boats?I am at across road deciding between a New Hunter, because simply they have everything for the cruiser or look for something more traditional for racing.Thank You

Not a chance

This is my second year racing with a 376. The PHRF rating (123 non-spin/108 spinnaker) is totally non-competitive and I have been at the back of the fleet every time. There is no way that a new Hunter can be competitive against boats with 155 headsails, backstays and no roller furling. Others who don't have a similar design boats may disagree, but if they say that a late model Hunter can be raced, they just don't know what they're talking about. By the way, I have had a sailmaker on board and we still came in last.

Not Good

The newest rigs are not very good for racing, they do not point as high, off the wind you need a reacher or spinnaker, and the sail controls are not set up for racing. I raced my 1988 legend 37 against a 1997 376, on a 13 mile course (regular club PHRF race), he finshed about 1/2 hour behind. I had the chance to race on the 376 last week, and I used every trick in the book to get it going, no luck, it was a dog. If you get a racing jib for these boats it may help, but I was not impressed. Nice boat for cruising. LAS

Hunter Racing

Why is it that Hunter does not seem to support racing.You contact them for info - and the info is lost.You would think that this being such a big supplier of quality sail boats that it would be a feather in their cap to see good race results.It appears that in the early days of Hunter ship building that the vintage 1980 boats did well. The 90's products are not doing well because they don't do well. Could it be a lack of support at Hunter or that they just don't care??Bob D HL 35
