We were in Carrabelle, Fl, couple days ago. Wanted to go to Apalachicola via the ICW, and ended up questioning whether we could or not. The charts show a 50 ft. bridge on the east end of the bay coming into Apalachicola. I kept hearing that the channel through the island coming in from offshore was shoaled up. HHMMMMM You mean we can't get there from here. Asked everyone and not solid answers. One guy tole me the bridge was big. LOL The marina in Apalachicola said the channel was passable, just stay to the red side of the channel. Then I found a local Towboats captain. And here is the real deal. The bridge between Carrabelle and Apalachicola has been replaced, and is now 65 feet. The channel through Govt. Cut is passable, with local knowledge and you hunt for deep water. So, inside in the ICW is fine, if you can clear a 65 foot bridge. The passage coming in from offshore is iffy, and I wouldn't recommend it unless you have some pretty good knowledge of that pass. You can get into Apalachicola from east or west in the ICW.
