...an Atlantic crossing by a 423 with a shoal keel and how it may handle it from a pointing perspective -- relative to the standard 5'7"? If so can you share your views or knowledge of the experience. Thank you -Chuck

IMHO...

Chuck : Although I've not yet had the experience, I suspect 7" of keel would not be a great deal of difference. Here is the reason that I know I'm correct... http://www.yacht-transport.com/ P.

You've left alot of info out.. which direction are you going, whats your route, There are many varibles and because of this, you can chose the right route to fit your boats design. To me, the 5'7" is a shole keel as I draw 7'6" on my 42. If your going US to UK, check out some of the routes that take advantage of the "Bermuda High" and go over the top. pick the right time of year and start planing.. Because the route across the top of the high is mostly on you quarter or rear, your keel may not be an issue. and expect to go a little out of your way to get where you want to go.....
