I have a 81 Hunter 25. I hope to have a Hunter 37 cutter of this vintage. Anyone know if I will be happy with the shallow draft version? We have lots of shallow water in North Carolina so the 4 feet draft would be nice. My last boat was a Cheoy Lee Clipper 33 which I sailed for 25 years. Any other information is appreciated. Thanks.

Shallow draft loses windward efficiency

Shallow draft means more leeway when sailing close-hauled. Of course it also means more access to shallow water. I'm not aware of any other issues with the shallow draft Cherubini designs. David Lady Lillie

Ed, is your keel deeper than your rudder?

Rudder depth.

Probably the rudder is within a couple of inches of the keel depth. But I have never actually measured it. If I can remember I will the next time I am up there. That could be March before I tire of this sunshine in FLA.

This ed has to disagree.

I think to deep keel will outpoint a shoal draft. if you were racing alot moving the sheet leads inboard will help too. I hope to take Ed S. on mine this week to show him a little speed!

Ed, disagree with whom about what?

Where is there disagreement? I thought my post was clearly in agreement with yours. We can settle this when I get Ladylove around. :) Oh, you knew about the crank down centerboard I think. Draft goes to 8 foot.
