Hello all, I just bought a 1978 Hunter 27 in Ft. Myers, FL. I live in Jacksonville, FL (Northeast FL) and have to sail it back there. I new to sailing, but have taken the ASA courses and got certified. Seeing if anyone has some days off in Feb 18 till the 23 or 24 and would be interested in help me sail her to Jacksonville. I would drive you back to where ever you live. All meals and expenses provided by me. Or if anyone has charts for the best coarse or suggestions/ tips, that would also greatly be appreciated. I can be contacted at Caezar@JaxCulture.com Thanks for reading. Caezar

Thanks Paul

Thanks for the chart and info Paul. I actually have a 7 - 10 schedule. I was hoping with a larger crew, I could get it done faster. But I guess I should allow for extra days for anyone who would want to do it. Anyone who has the time from Feb 18 to Feb 25/26 and interested, drop me a line. I'm buying a GPS chartplotter off Ebay as well as Navigation Guides on CD, was kinding hoping someone did a similar trip and had all info locked down. Thanks again for info Paul and anyone else providing more.

PLAN "B"

Not the best time to be heading north on a sail boat. I would suggest before you make the trip also look into how much it would cost to have it loaded on at ruck and delivered.

why key west?

cut a few days off the trip by going thru the okechobee waterway instead of all the way around the keys. the only thing you have to take into account is the 50 foot bridge on the outer side of the lake. i think it is about 52' now that the lake is down. guestimate that you can do 50-60 miles a day inside if you motor up the ICW

Ft Myers to Jax

Ceazar, My thoughts, have made this trip several times over the past few years in my Hunter 27['79] mainly from Key Largo north to Beaufort Scar. Also 4 trips across the lake. You will not make it in the time alloted by way of Key West. Takes me 5 days pushing hard to go from Key Largo to Daytona Beach! Across the lake is the ONLY chance you have to meet your schedule and i don't think you can. Call Corp of Engineers to confirm no locks are down for maintinance[i didn't one year, guess what?]. Which power plant does it have? Makes a big difference in speed thru chop. Buy chart kit for Florida east coast. I'm up the St Johns river at Welaka Will answer any questions i can but not interested in making the trip this time of year. Carl

BTW, i wouldn't even consider "sailing" this route, this time of year what with the strong fronts that pass through seems every 4/5 days. Also new boat to you and relative lack of knowledge and experience. Not trying to flame you, only trying to bring out some of the factors involved.

Cancelled

Hey all, First and foremost I would like to Thank Everyone for the responses, information, and suggestions. Most everyone I've met on the marinas and into sailing have been so helpful. That's why very disappointed right now.....I have to cancell this trip. My job has cancelled the second half of my vacation time due to unexpected staff shortage. Fortunately I had already arrived at my first half of my vacation destination when I got the word: Just got here in Las Vegas. I will have to look for other sailboats closer to me. Again, I want to thank everyone. Caezar
