I have an 2000 Hunter 420. Its older AM FM radio sound plays into marine grade speakers in my cockpit. I want to send my iPhone's music into that sound system. Can it be done w/ a mini FM transmitter, which plugs in the boat's cigarette socket?

Many current FM car/marine stereos have bluetooth, Aux inputs, or USB inputs. Probably for not much more money you could upgrade the stereo and forgo the FM transmitter. When internet streaming radio first came out in the 90s I did build a small FM transmitter for my house. It worked, but it was not perfect. Direct input yields far superior sound.

I have this one on the boat. Does what you want and works pretty well for less than $20.

4. Nulaxy Bluetooth Car FM Transmitter Audio Adapter Receiver Wireless Hands Free Car Kit W 1.44 Inch Display - KM18
Nulaxy Wireless in Car Bluetooth FM Transmitter Radio Adapter: photo
The Nulaxy KM18 is a quality, technologically-superior, adjustable, wireless, Bluetooth car adapter. It is compatible with most market devices including Apple, Xiaomi, Sony, Samsung, and Oppo. It has a 5V port for quick-charging your devices. You can charge your phone while you listen to your music
The KM18 has an advanced noise reduction system for perfectly-clear sound, as well as play-mode features and a voltmeter for your enjoyment and driving safety. Play your music through your TF card, Bluetooth, or AUX cable.
This Bluetooth FM transmitter type adapter plugs into your car’s cigarette lighter and connects your phone via Bluetooth with your radio signal and frequency. It has a large 1.44-inch screen that displays incoming phone calls, music selections, and your car’s battery voltage.
The downside is, if your car does not automatically shut off the cigarette lighter when the car is shut off, this Bluetooth car adapter can drain your battery if it is left plugged-in. Also, as is typical of FM transmitter adapters, it may be more difficult to get a strong FM signal/frequency in and around city areas.
Recommendations:
The Nulaxy KM18 Bluetooth car adapter is intended for those that do not have 3.5mm AUX-in plug in their vehicle but still want maximum device compatibility and features. It comes in six colors to match your car’s interior. A 6-month limited manufacturer’s warranty is also included with this product.

That's great if you have an aux port. My stereo doesn't.

I just put one of those old xmitters in my pile of stuff for the DAV. They work great.

On my AM/FM radio I have the Auxiliary Input.

I just plug in a BlueTooth receiver there and it links to all the iDevices for anyone with music or any other free broadcasting.

Steps to start an internet radio station legally. Step 1: naming your radio station and identifying your content. Step 2: preparation of the necessary equipment. Step 3: pick a software. Step 4: acquire a music license/fm radio license. Step 5: promote it on social media. Step 6: create your own website. Step 7: broadcast and launch your radio station.
I don’t think that is what the op was getting at:rolleyes:
