in northern California? Thinking/planning on trailering our Mac26X up there and maybe spend a few days/week in the town of Chester. Do the powers-that-be let you spend nights in your boat on the lake? Understand you are not allowed to do that on Whiskey Town reservoir, which could apply to other northern Calif ponds.

Lake Almanor Sailing

We are leaving in about 30 minutes for Lake Almanor(making our departure 2 hours later than the admiral said! Sigh)...meeting our club there. It is an absolutely beautiful lake, quite large, with an imposing view of Mt. Lassen. The west shore public launch at the campground is very shallow...might have trouble launching your Mac. I sail an H216 and it is just fine but the H216 only draws 1' with the keel/rudder up. The launch site at the dam is overrun with stinkpots. Don't know about overnighting on the lake. Not many sheltered places. There is a gorgeous B&B in Chester. We are staying at the Las Plamas Resort. Kinda old and a little tacky...but cheap and the people are nice. "Hotel" like room is $70. The also have cabins plus their own launch ramp and marina. In the past I have been able to rent a slip at the marina. You can boat down to Prattville to a reasonable restaurant for dinner (they have a guest dock).

Thanks Ranger Paul

for the info, right now it looks like we will have a house maybe for 3 months, so only need a place to park the trailer, will be checking with the home owner in the near future to see if there is room at the rental. Use to fly into your airport there in Paradise once in a while.

Mac at Lake Almanor

Mel, Had a great day sailing at Lake Almanor. Light winds but steady. We worked on boat tuning after moving the jib blocks for the third time! Wanted to let you know we saw a Mac about your size out on the lake. Too far away to hail so I don't know where he launched but he obviously launched somewhere! With my H216, we found we had to have the truck tires up to the rims in water to launch/retrieve my H216. I usually don't have to go this deep.
