I am looking to repower my 1980 Hunter 27 with a Yanmar 2GM20 engine. It currently has a Renault.

I have been searching the archives and reading as much as I can but I seem to get some different opinions as to the extent of the project. Some have emailed and indicated that since the engine is longer, the steps had to be moved 12" forward to accommodate the 2GM20. Others have indicated that there was no modification necessary on the steps.

I do realize that the mounting feet are different, but could someone shed some light on their knowledge of this or on their experience with a repowering of the H27?

Is there something I am missing in my measurements? Or something that I am not taking into consideration?

I do want to say that I appreciate all of your input. I am the first to admit that I am a novice at this and thank you in advance for any incite you can share.

Not sure this helps, but the the only modification I made for a 2ym15 yanmar into a 76 H27 was to grind down the fiberglass beds a little. Yanmar has good drawings of all their motors - you should be able to compare - I dont know about the Renault, I replaced an older Yanmar.

If its of any help, there are 2 nos of H280 at my marina. One with 1GM10 and another with 2GM20F. As far as I can tell, the engine cover for both are same hence the engine well can fit either engine. I believe H27 is quite similiar to H280.
