Anyone re-bedded their depth and speed logs

The thin wood they used as a backing for my speed log and depth sounder transducer in my v-cabin are deteriorating. Has anyone replaced these? Is there some kind of thin plastic I could use instead? Minor issue.

mainsail did an article on reinforcing the through hull fittings and it would be the same process..or you could get some 1/4 thick fiberglass sheeting and cut out some large washers and do that using a good under the water sealant ...don't use butyl tape below the water line

Any chance that Home Depot or Lowes would carry fiberglass sheeting? I made the trek to WM today in Woodbridge, VA and lost 2 hours fighting traffic. Boat is on the hard for bottom painting this week, so if I can grab something handy that helps.

The name of the sheeting is G10. Your best bet will be to order it from McMaster-Carr and have them express ship it. They carry G10 as a stock item so you should be able to get it by Tuesday or Wednesday. Defender and Jamestown Distributers also carry it and should be able to ship it to you.

Aza Board

I am thinking of using Aza Board. It is 3/4" thick and I have some scrap. Here is the old one that I got out. It was pretty waterlogged and no longer structurally sound. The other one came out in multiple pieces. It all cleaned up easily.

I am thinking this was a dealer install as it is set up differently from all the others which are painted over and thicker.

G10 is strong but lets get real...how many years did the prior plywood last? You are not doing a highly stressed 2 inch thru hull but simple plastic compoments. It won't hurt to go through the cost and effort of G10 but marine ply will also do very well as many respected builders use it for that purpose. G10 is overkill for most apps IMHO.
Not sure how well sealants will bond to Aza, Starboard etc.

Anyone have a source for the plugs as shown in the second picture?

I'm the third owner of the boat and they went astray before the boat got to me.

Raymarine as a source?

To be honest I am the 2nd owner and they have always been there. Since this is Raymarine equipment I suspect you could get them from them.

BTW, Here is one of the new backing boards I made. They are 4-1/4 by 4-1/4 with a 2-1/8 hole in the center like the old boards. These are 3/4" PVC board that will be plenty strong and never rot.
