I am trying to see if there is anyone in the Kemah Texas area that might be around home at the end of this month, July 2016. I am going to make the trip to see and transfer the slip on our new-to-us sailboat. Also wanted to talk to a few folks in that area to find out where the best marina and prices for slips were. The boat is at the Watergate Yachting Center at this time and the slip rent is kinda high but it seems to be a nice place with newer slips. Anyway if there is anyone that has vast knowledge or more than me of what to look for on a old sailboat, as in problem areas I could use a good set of eyes to help me out. I could repay you with some drinks and a good super or lunch. Just let me know and thanks!!!

Also if you come take a look, no small dinghy jokes!! LOL
it is only a 25ft sailboat.

Jerry, send me a pm I'm in the Kemah area and I'll be around. Don't know about vast experience but I'd be happy to visit with you.

That's a great idea. Hope you guys connect. Kemah must be a nice lake, I saw a lot of boat buying and selling down there when I was looking.

Justin,

In the for what it's worth category Kemah is a town on Galveston Bay that when combined others in the Clear Lake area make the third largest recreational boating area behind San Diego and Annapolis (so I am told). The lake that you may be looking at on Google Earth is Clear Lake, and it is neither clear nor an actual lake, it is brine to salty depending on rain fall and tides. From Clear Lake one can access Galveston Bay, the Houston Ship Channel, ICW and the Gulf of Mexico. We always seem to have a 12-18 knot wind after 1:00 pm or so. Its a great place to sail although there are certainly more beautiful locales!

Hey- don't knock it because it's "only a 25 foot"

My 25 footer has nearly 12,000 miles behind her CRUISING, non local. Entire coast, Port Isabel Tx, to Annapolis Maryland, plus Bahamas.

Plus,, Lyn and Larry Pardey's Seraffyn was 25 feet- look what they did with it

Thanks for the tip. Looked them up and looks like some good eating. Might have to try them out when I head that way.

Well this
I've heard said by offshore people, 'Buy the smallest boat you can stand, and go with it'.

This is a starter boat, to get back into sailing. After a year or so we are wanting a 36 to 45 to take some longer trips on. We will see how this goes first though before I spend that kind of money. LOL

Don't get too fixated on a large boat. Lots of additional problems go along. Personally I went from a 21 footer, to a 35 foot trimaran, to another 21 footer, now to my full keel 25 foot.. It fits me perfectly and did for two when there were two onboard. 2 1/2 years full time.

You may find a 25-30 foot to be the perfect boat

Not to talk you out of it, but I don't wanna maintain that much boat, although many do :)

I hear you but if the wife really likes the sailboat she has big plans of sailing the lower islands, DR and all that area. I have been told that you really need a larger boat for that but then again I have never traveled that far in a sailboat.

Jerry. Send me a PM. I have my boat in Waterford and was in Seabrook marina. Can give pros and cons on both as well as a few others. I am back in country the end of the month. Jerry
