Interested in a Boat located in Summerside PEI. I am 90% the way to sending a check but would love to have a sailor go take a look and snap a couple pictures. I would compensate for your time!

Why not hire a professional surveyor? The future financial savings will more than compensate for the cost of the survey.

If you just want pictures, just ask the current owner.

Keep in mind that photos don't tell the whole story or even much of the
story.

Anyone going to look at it for you, should be skilled enough to do a initial inspection. Many sailors aren't.

After the initial inspection I would have a professional do a survey.

You will likely need a survey anyhow, just to get insurance.

You will have to wait until hurricane fiona passes over the island, before anyone will do anything.

Yeah, that’s why I’d like a look to see how she faired through the storm!

The boat had a Survey done by a professional when she was put on the hard 2 years ago.

Thanks HB for posting the news link for PEI. They were hit hard. A little like the US East Coast when Sandy came shore a few years ago.

Prayers for all who experienced the wrath of Fiona.

Yes in the big picture the boat is the least of their problems!

i second prayers to those hit by Fiona.

I’ve been negotiating with the current owner the last couple weeks. The boat is perfect for my hopeful sailing plans but getting the thing back via trailer to the US will cost nearly the price of the boat. Sailing it back would be much cheaper and fun but I can’t at this point get 3-4 weeks to get it around NS into Maine/Mass somewhere.

I was ready to send a check out Wednesday but saw the hurricane path, hopefully it made it through unscathed. I’d be a nervous wreck today if I sent that check!

Yes, have patience. Given that the province is currently in the middle of a hurricane and that boat might not exist tomorrow. I second hiring a professional surveyor, not some "guy/gal" to check it out for you. It would have to be an incredible deal for me to buy a boat I haven't seen.

You’ll need a survey anyway if you plan on insuring it. Good luck to all involved.

I wrote earlier in the thread the boat had a Professional Survey completed just before it was put on the hard in 2020. I have it in my possession.

Id like to see how it looks now prior to sending money. The owner is 1600 miles away from the boat.

What‘s happened since? That survey is stale.
A couple of things.

When I bought mine I quickly realized the interior pictures were older (from a PO) than what I was looking at during my tours.

A ton of things can happen in a couple of years like not spending any money on maintenance and upkeep. In my opinion boats in general need daily, weekly, monthly, semi-annual and annual maintenance and TCL.

I did get a survey completed on mine, best money I spent. If the owner bulks at it that should be a warning sign.

The I don't trust humanity in me says the current owner could be reading this thread and have a friend respond and inspect it for you. That is a shame that I even ponder that. The world is not what it was when I was a young man.

This boat has a interesting pedigree! If interested checkout “Wave Rover” on Ytube. The 2018 rebuild has been documented in the video series. A up to date walk through video was made a couple weeks ago by the former owner. I trust the former owner when he says the boat is still in great shape.

Basically I started this thread asking if anyone in PEI would mind taking a look to see if it was damaged by storm (tree limb though hull or other overtly obvious problems) and take a couple pictures. I would compensate for their time.

Very interesting boat! I guess you're lucky that you didn't send the check, but I don't think that would matter. I doubt the owner would hold you fast to a sale if there was a catastrophe in the meantime. The seller seems like a very decent sort of person, I don't know what there is to worry about but you should know him by now if you trust him. It sounds like you have really fallen for this boat! It seems that there isn't anybody in this forum that is on PEI so you are out of luck finding any kind of assistance. You have to admit, it is a longshot! If you are that close to purchasing the boat, I don't really understand how you have gotten so far down this path without knowing how you are going to take delivery! Were you planning to have it shipped? There is no sense in fretting over the price now. It would be a miracle if anybody finally steps forward to make an inexpensive delivery run. It seems you are fixated on purchasing this boat, yet some are stubbornly warning you against the risks. If you have this much faith in an unseen boat, just do it, man! If the boat is important and the money is not ... just trust what your heart is telling you to do and find a way! I think if I were in your shoes, I would just get into Canada no matter what it takes, make the transaction in person and sail her back. If the time off is impossible, and the risk is too great, then I would simply put her out of my mind. Your window is closing with the season. :)
