South LA Guy here

I live in Lafayette but I keep my boat in Madisonville. I evacuated to Shreveport and returned home today. My house is fine, not even a shingle missing from the roof. Now I'm trying to find out about the storm surge at Madisonville at Marina Del Ray. The floating docks will take up to about eleven feet but they were predicting 16 feet before the storm. I guess I'll just have to wait to see...

spoke with Phil " nice-n-easy and dick dixon today and everyone is ok on boat damage except foe Sea Dancer in Biloxi. Aparently Sea Dancer drug anchor and they have been looking for the boat today. Phil is still without power so he has no internet access. Otherwise it seems we dodged another bullet.

Now we have Ike and josephine to deal with next week or so.

All present and accounted for!

Hi Guys!

Our boat is safe and sound back in her cradle as of an hour ago.
We did drag anchor for a considerable distance possibly when we lost our secondary anchor. Also shredded our main sail which we thought was wrapped up tight.Other than that all is well. Some other boats in our marina did not do well...

Special thanks AGAIN to Randy our slip neighbor for all of his help.

Hope everyonne else is safe and sound.

Now we can get a good nights sleep...thanks for thinking of us.

I am glad this storm sorta gentled down. I was concerned about loss of life and assets. Do you all have electric power back yet?

weather

Thank you for the link to the Nymph(I'm working on it:)) and I am still making your recipe for traveling muffins!

Weather here got nasty! Heard the sound of tornado's!! We were lucky enough to have no flooding(as we are the last house on a hill) and our home did not have any damage except for the usual tree limbs everywhere. We were lucky enough to only lose power for about 2 hours and then flickering on and off yesterday. Other parts of South Mississippi especially Highway 90(still closed)and beachfront properties all along it are under water from the storm surge. Homes still without power. Lots of sailboats and shrimp boats washed up. I have a link of some pictures from SunHerald and WlOX. People were asked not to come back in until tomorrow. We still have some heavy flooding on our way this week with lots of rain and thunderstorms forcasted and we are still under tornado watches.

After GUSTAV!!!!

-Chased from the Base Marina, it was closed to boats.
-Three of us launched the dingy (without my floating tow line) from a Public Boat launch adding 1.5 miles journey in the small dingy.

NOW - WITHIN .4 MILES OF THE MARINA

-Helped check two other boats, Catalina 25(Capt Mike)and Hunter 33'Cherubini (Seadance & Clewless), then my own.
-All were well - only 2 lost anchors amongst us.
-Helped reposition one boat that drifted.
-Watched two additional boats enter the "Closed" marina.
-After some back and forth discussion - allowed to enter marina.
-Helped move Catalina 25 into the Marina.
-Hunter 33'Cherubini(Capt Clewless)managed to get in with out additional assistance.
-Capt Mike(Catalina 25)and I went back to get my Catalina 27.

- WITHOUT EXPANDED DESCRIPTION: ;D

--Fouled anchor, could not unhook, two people or winch or power of boat.
--Fouled rudder and prop on dingy line while trying to unhook anchor.
----Remember, no floating tow line!
--Cut anchor, started to drift.
--Pulled jib - minimum control over rudder.
--Just started to make real headway progress, ran aground.
--Capt Mike went in water to his waist - began to unravel the rope.
--Sheriff Marine Patrol appeared, Capt Mike was almost done.
--Capt Mike done, Yanmar 1GM fired right up, no movement.
--Marine patrol pulled us off.
--"Uneventful" return to the marina.
--Put the Zydeco II to bed in her safe and sound floating slip.

I love Sailboats.

anchorage

We anchored in front of the marina outside of the channel marker but found it was shallow out there. We need to find a better spot for the next one and soon.

We were all hooked just accross from Keesler AFB. It has worked well for most boats except for Katrina.

I scrolled through a few pictures

and was surprised at how many boats had their biminis up, jibs on and mainsail covers on (sails not taken off the boat).

Any coincidence to their condition and "new" location?
