New to this. Would love to learn how to sail. Purchased a used Hunter 146 and have all the parts, but there is no diagram in user manual that shows the sailboat completely rigged. I'm very surprised there are no complete rigging videos or even raising mast for the Hunter 146. Any help would be appreciated to get me started.

Welcome to the forum. Congrats on getting your first boat.

Learning about the basic boat parts and their functions will be similar or the same for your 140 Hunter.
You might want to explore the basic ASA classes or similar teaching groups at many marinas.

First look at the Hunter 146 boat information. Go to boat information/Hunter Resources/146/downloads. Look at modifications and photos. In addition, look for a book on small boat sailing and read it first. Then take a course or get someone to teach you that is familiar with small boat sailing as you stated that you are new to this. Leave the kids at home during training
This is what I advised to people buying daysailor sailboats.

The forum store has the complete build list of your boat parts as several sales folks worked at Hunter. As for me, I am a former Hunter dealer who introduced the 146. Follow my advice and I will be a backup for information.

The 146 came with roller furling jib as standard (forestay incorporated in furling sail and no backstay but only two shrouds each side. Never heel over 12-14 degrees. Never stand directly onto boat when in the water.. During training, only those who need to learn should be on board.

Thanks Dave! Great info! I’m currently taking a Coast Guard Basic Boating & Safety Class. I also signed up for 3 day “Hands On” sailing instruction in July. Hope to be able to get out and have fun before then. Does the Hunter 146 capsize easy?…I’m hoping not!
Thank you!

Thanks! I have the manual and know the parts of the rigging, just was hoping for better diagrams with all the rigging in place. I’ve actually figured most of it out with the guide and some videos. Hoping to have it rigged tomorrow, then I can practice re-rigging. So far I’ve done all myself with some little tricks putting up mask.
Thank you for your reply!

Ok! I’ll take some pics tomorrow. Boats covered with rain in the area. I’ll also see if I can find a diagram of drain layout. Thanks, Bubs

Bought the Hunter with no drain installed. I certainly Dont want to just plug holes and eliminate drain so here’s the dilemma…. Arm can’t fit all the way in to attach connectors to hose. Decided I’m going to put an access panel between the N & T so I can put nuts on connectors and clamps to secure hoses.
