I recently bought a great 1989, 240. BUT.... I am having Roller Furling trouble. I have all the original manuals from the boat EXCEPT for the originaly l equipped roller furling manual. I do have the complete general boat manual (and am willing to share with anyone needing it) has all rigging and general information about the boat, but anytime the discussion about the roller furling is more than a sentence or two, primarily how to furl and unfurl, it says "your O'Day has been equipped with the finest roller furling available. Refer to the roller furling manual which has been included'. Well of course I have everything BUT that specific manual, and I seem to need it badly.

Specifically, my Roller Furling has 'come apart" and I need info, diagrams, pictures, instruction on how to re-install it-- its IS "installed" on my fore stay, but the reefing line is off, the case fell off,and i almost lost the boom-- previous owner didn't have a cotter pin in the turnbuckle.

Please help if you can, and i am willing to share my complete and rather good condition original owners manual for the boat for those who may need it.

Thanks a TON.

If this is the original roller furler that came with the boat, it may be a Schaeffer. My 1986 O'Day 222 came with a real cheap roller furler made by Schaeffer. It wasn't a roller reefing furler and I had more problems with it than it was worth. So I removed it and went to a conventional Gennie with snap hooks. I now have a CDI FF-2 Roller Reefing Furler and I love it. Find out what the make is on this furler and Google the company. A good furler will have a plastic luff that fits over the fore stay with a built in halyard for the sail. You should also be able to reef the sail. If it's not a roller reefing furler, it's probably not worth having on your boat.
