The old Newmar battery charger on my Hunter 1990 33.5 should be replaced. Not because it doesn't charge, but because it can over-charge. This information provided by the Newmar tech support. I have 12 VDC refrigeration and want to leave it running while in port and unattended. I use a 2-bank battery system with a #24 and #27 flooded deep-discharge wet cells. The Xantrex 20+ is a very popular model, but I believe the 10 amp version is enough for what I have. Anybody have further thoughts on that?

Xantrex TrueCharge 10

I replaced an old ferroresonant Charles charger this spring with the TrueCharge 10. My banks are both 24's. I really slowed the boiling off of electrolyte. I can now leave the charger on 24/7 when I'm not on board without worrying about cooking my batteries. The TrueCharge 10 is specified for less than 200 AH of batteries, which I think fits your case too. I got the model that has the terminal blocks to hard wire in. There is a model that uses clips and plugs in to 110V rather than being hard wired. I don't remember the model designation right off the top of my head, it's pretty plain when you see the two models listed together which is which. HTH Ellis

Good product

Replaced my old charger with the Xantrex TrueCharge 10 on my Catalina 27 last year about this time. I have a 50AMPBattery Combiner and a Blue Seas engine/house/emergency combine panel. No problems. I agree with Ellis, 24/7 no problems. S/V Zydeco

Mine gets really hot...

to the touch in bulk charge mode. Do other TC10 owners have the same experience? I'm set up like Randy's.

Been running a trucharge 10 for 4 years

I've run a trucharge 10 with 2 group 27 house batteries and 1 group 24 engine start battery connected to the house bank with a combiner for the last 4 years. works great, does not seem to get hot, just warm...I do not usually pull the batteries down to a 50% charge. I do us battery power at the dock sometimes, and have pulled 20 amps or so for long periods, the truecharge did not get hot under those conditions.
